Yass Valley Arborist
The Yass Valley has its own character, and its trees reflect it. Central Yass streets lined with mature elms and plane trees. Rural properties running out toward Bowning and Binalong with old paddock eucalypts and 50-year-old pine windbreaks. Wine estates around Murrumbateman with their own tree management needs.
Canopy has been the Southern Tablelands' trusted arborist team since 1986. The Yass Valley sits inside our regular service catchment, and we've spent decades working across the mix of properties the valley holds such as residential removals in central Yass, rural clearing on hobby farms, mature tree work on heritage streetscapes, and vineyard-adjacent jobs where careful access matters.
What We Do

Valley Species
Yass Valley tree work covers a specific mix with the natives that dominate the rural country, the European plantings that give central Yass its character, and the introduced species that turn up along boundaries and waterways.
The dominant woodland pairing across the Yass Valley's rural country. Mature specimens on private land are often part of protected grassy woodland, which brings extra rules around removal or heavy pruning.
Common through the higher country toward Bowning and up the valley. Apple Box on the slopes, Snow Gum at elevation. Both handle the valley's cold winters well, but structural failures do happen in mature specimens after wind events.
Yass's older streets and historic properties carry established elms with some pushing a century old. Elm leaf beetle damage is a regular issue through summer, and mature specimens sometimes need staged pruning or, occasionally, full removal.
Planted in rows on rural blocks and around some vineyard properties from the 60s onward. At maturity they become oversized and prone to failure, one of our more common rural removal jobs across the valley.
Along the Yass River and around older farm dams. Aggressive root systems and, for several species, priority weed status under NSW Biosecurity Act rules.
Old remnant trees left standing when the valley was cleared for grazing. Structurally variable after a century of drought, storm and stock damage. Proper assessment before any removal decision is essential.
The Yass Valley's mix of protected natives, heritage plantings and mature rural trees means removal decisions often need a proper look before anything happens. We can assess your tree, tell you what applies under Yass Valley Council or NSW rules, and handle the work if that's the right call.
Council Approvals
Yass Valley Council manages tree removal and pruning approvals across the local government area. Under NSW planning rules, many mature trees need council consent before removal or significant pruning. Particularly on properties with protected vegetation or inside heritage precincts. If you're not sure whether your tree needs approval, we can check it for you and handle the paperwork if needed.
Service Area
We service central Yass, Murrumbateman, and the surrounding Yass Valley. If you've got a tree that needs a qualified look, get in touch and we'll come out.
